About Casey Broker

I am a recent graduate from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida as a Studio Art Major and Art History Minor. 2017 was my first year taking photos purposefully as an art form; I took my first photography class in my first semester at Florida Southern. As the semester progressed, I realized I was drawn to more abstract concepts and compositions in my photography- similar to my paintings and mixed media works, which would develop even more. For example, my long-exposure photos are mostly made of only lines of light, but still have a story behind the photo- stories that could be different to different people. Vintage aesthetics also came out of my photography; if a raw photo was not in an abstract or vintage style already, my editing through Adobe Photoshop would make it that way. Objects that are chosen in my paintings also come from vintage or unique places and concepts.

Objects have become an everyday part of people’s lives and yet, they can be often overlooked or unappreciated by those who have them. They can hold memories when our minds cannot- they let us do daily tasks that we could not do previously, and they get us through life –whether they were man-made or not. Usually, the subject matter of my works is in relation to personal items or the concepts I hold with various things around me. I have used various mediums to get a concept across to the viewer-or at the very least have an image the viewer can relate to on their own level. By using mediums such as oil paint, watercolor, photography, and other mixed media, I can display these objects in any way I want while still keeping their value. I am interested in unique still-lifes that can show a story or lesson about me or the thoughts I have on a particular subject. My works may have an individual meaning to me, but my works might also give different meanings to other viewers- which I encourage.
